Rock legends retold as timeless myths! A celebration of the power of rock music through spoken-word storytelling, live band and ancient tales.
We’ve all felt it! The pounding beat, the thrill of guitars, the legends we can only wonder at: rock music, in its power and promise, has been a myth for our times since it first blazed its trail across the sky. Come and hear professional storyteller Jon Norman-Mason recast rock legends as the timeless myths they are! Elvis, the Sun King; Patti the Warrior Poet; Tina who Went to Hell and Back; Kurt, Janis and all those who Flew Too High Too Fast… and always the hordes of young questers, setting out in their wake for adventure.
Combining soaring storytelling with a full live rock band, Promised Land reimagines the lives of your favourite rock icons as figures from world mythology and folktale. Meet famous names in less familiar faces, share in little-known legends of fable and rock history, and ask what the music really MEANS to us now…
Featuring members of Robb Johnson & The Irregulars and Shaw’s Trailer Park, and the timeless tales of gods, monsters, heroes and outlaws, this is a celebration in words and music of the rock’n’roll myths that bridge the ages. A must for anyone who ever had posters on their walls, played guitar in the mirror, thrilled to the noise and dreamed of freedom…!
“So good!!! I can’t recommend it enough.” ***** Brighton Fringe ‘
“…what a treat. Faith in music, real story. Just cool.” ****
“These tales should be told in forests, forums and festivals up and down the land… Brilliant band also!” *****
“Certainly deserves an Oscar… This is wildly ambitious exuberant storytelling” – Brighton Source, Merlin in the Wild Wood (2022)

Eye to eye, mind to mind and heart to heart, the ancient art of storytelling is both timeless and contemporary. GuestHouse Storytelling Club hosts diverse professional storytellers to work in a community context and provides a sustainable platform for local storytellers to share and create work.
The Club meets on the second Tuesday of every month at The Hillcrest Centre in Newhaven. We have no registered membership; everyone is welcome and you become a member by attending. To find out about upcoming events you can email us on info@guesthousestorytellers.com or visit the website www.guesthousestorytellers.com.
There are two 7 minute floor-spots per Story Night. Tellers vary from the very well trained and experienced to people stepping into the water for the first time. Everyone is welcome and every story and teller is different, providing a varied and rich feast of tales to carry away with you and maybe even re-tell. If you would like a floor-spot, please write to us at info@guesthousestorytellers.com or catch us on a Club evening.
The rest of the evening is devoted to a professional teller, often of international renown.
